JOHAN DE WILDE IN GROUP SHOW NEW YORK


From June 7th until July 21st, Johan De Wilde’s work will feature in a group show entitled ‘The Thing That(s) Left’. The show will be held at Dean Project - New York and is curated by Patricia Smith. Other artists in the show include: Ryan Brown (US), Rik De Boe (Be), Norma Markley (US), Peter Morrens (Be), Patricia Smith (US) & Hannelore Van Dijck (Be).

SYDNEY BIENNALE CATALOGUE OUT NOW

Catherine de Zegher and Gerald McMaster have been appointed as joint artistic directors of this 18th edition of the Sydney Biennale. Both internationally acclaimed curators are well known for their thorough engagement with the artists and their works. Belgian born Catherine de Zegher has been Guest Curator at the Department of Drawings, Museum of Modern Art, New York, Director and Chief Curator of the Drawing Center in New York, Co-Founder and Director of the Kanaal Foundation in Kortrijk (Be), as well as Visiting Curator at the Fondation Tapiès, Barcelona and Director of Exhibitions and Publications at the Art Gallery of Toronto, Canada. Throughout her career, de Zegher has won several prestigious awards for her pioneering exhibitions and numerous publications, in which she often launched and consolidated the careers of extraordinary artists. Gerald McMaster has been Fredrik S. Eaton Curator of Canadian Art and was the Director’s Special Assistant at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, and Curator at the Canadian Museum of Civilization. 

Artists invited for the Biennale and included in this catalogue are amongst others: Ann Veronica Janssens, Honoré d’O, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Monica Grzymala, Ria Verhaeghe, Cecilia Vicuna, Sarah Vanagt with Katrien Vermeire, Phil Hastings, Cristina Iglesias, Bouchra Khalili, Farideh Lashai, Li Hongbo, Erin Manning, Everlyn Nicodemus, Makinti Napanangka, Ed Pien with Tanya Tagaq, Reinier Rietveld and Craigie Horsfield, Daan Roosegarde, Khaled Sabsabi and many more. 

This wonderfully illustrated 400-pages catalogue has, amongst others, a unique middle section cut horizontally in halves, that gives the reader the possibility to view all works from different angles and perspectives, and in relation to the other works.

FILM + AVOND IN NETWERK AALST - 8 MEI - 20 U: 

Karin Hanssen, Els van Riel en David Bergé lichten hun werk toe in de tentoonstelling ‘Fat Birds don’t Fly’, in een debat met Prof. Dr. Johan Pas. Thema van het debat: hoe deze kunstenaars de problematiek van identiteit in hun werk benaderen. Aansluitend wordt ‘Un film abécédaire’ van kunstenares Eléonore Saintagnan getoond.

DOCTORAATSVERDEDIGING JERRY GALLE

VRIJDAG 27 APRIL - 15u - KASK

Jerry Galle (onderzoeker KASK | School of Arts Gent) presenteert zijn proefschrift ‘Poëtische Machine’ tot het verkrijgen van de graad van Doctor in de Kunsten. De verdediging zal doorgaan op vrijdag 27 april om 15.00 uur in Cirque (Anatomisch Auditorium, Bijlokesite, Louis Pasteurlaan 2, 9000 Gent). Gelijktijdig wordt de publicatie ‘Poëtische Machine’ gepresenteerd, uitgegeven door MER. Paper Kunsthalle i.s.m. School of Arts Gent.

HET HUIS HUILT

‘Het Huis Huilt’ auteur Alice Joseph (alias voor Michelle Adriaense) maakt tijdens het Gentse Insectenfestival haar eigen Cocon. Michelles werk situeert zich op het grensvlak van theater en beeldende kunst. Haar parcours brengt haar langs verhalen in de vorm van een spel, installaties, experimenteel theater of interactieve poëzie.
